Every three years since its founding in 1966, the ISST has held a conference to further the discussion of the interdisciplinary study of time. Conferences have been held in The United States, France, England, Germany, Japan, Austria, and Canada. Conferences are usually run from a Sunday evening through to Saturday morning with presentations being made all day for four days of the five. The conference settings are chosen to provide an inspiring, secluded environment where meals are taken together and idea sharing can be maximized.
The ISST is supporting the International Conference on Metamorphoses of Time, to be held at the Institute of English and American Studies of the University of Gdańsk from May 28-30, 2025. Please find further information and the call for papers here.
CONFERENCE 2026 UPDATE:
19th Triennial Conference in Sardinia, University of Cagliari from June 28 – July 3, 2026: Time and Entanglement
The International Society for the Study of Time (ISST), renowned for its interdisciplinary scope, invites scientists, scholars, artists, and practitioners to explore the theme of “Time and Entanglement” at its 19th Triennial Conference at the University of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy. Our four-day format of plenary presentations fosters sustained, in-depth discussion among participants. For this reason, we thus expect participants to register for the full duration of the conference. Midway through the event, we take a day off and provide participants with a selection of time-related excursions in the historic Cagliari area.
The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2025, with notifications of acceptance sent by December 15, 2025. Please upload your proposal here. The ISST is also seeking session chairs, whose names will be included in the printed conference program.
(Conference update on January 13, 2025: More information will be posted soon.)
Our 2023 conference was held in Yamaguchi, Japan.
